Making Money at Home Using eBay

We have all heard of eBay, but have you ever tried to make money on eBay? Some say it is very difficult, but I think this is just a rumour started from people who tried it and were not successful because they did not understand some basic details of how to market your items.

To understand how to make money, we must first understand the types of customers using eBay. There are two basic eBay shoppers, the person looking for deals and the person looking for one-of-a-kind items. The person looking for a deal usually knows what they are looking for on eBay and when they search for those items, they expect to see many results for the products they are looking for. Although price is their final determination, quality is sometimes taken into account. If they end up buying a product from you and it was an enjoyable experience, they tend to become a repeat customer.

The one-of-a-kind shopper also knows what they are looking for, but unlike the person looking for a deal, they are looking for a great quality product at a reasonable price. They will shop around to ensure that the price they are paying matches the quality of the product. They too will come back if they have a great buying experience. Both types of shoppers value price and quality and there is a need to ensure that the price and quality are described as best as possible to ensure a sale.

A quality product can usually ensure a good sale. There are many ways to convey to your customer the quality of the products they will be bidding on. The most basic way is through pictures. Pictures should be clear, a close-up of every view of the product, in colour and without glare. Perhaps pictures of serial numbers and imprinted manufacturer seals can also convey a quality product. Many people have will have a single picture that does not have enough detail. This can cause some confusion with the buyer, so ensure those pictures are clear. Take the time to take your pictures and review them before posting them. If they are not good enough, try a secondary light source and turn off the flash on the camera. Experiment and make the picture perfect.

The description of the product can also be very critical to being successful in making money on eBay. Include details concerning the make, model, year, age, material, where it was made, how big the product is, whether it is new or used, whether it has been refurbished or not, etc. It all depends on what the product, so pick the details you think your customers would be interested in. The details can be in the form of a paragraph, but shoppers find point form quicker to review. Using a word processor to type your description and use a spell checker and check the grammar.

The title is just as important as the description. When customers look for products they will either type in a generic name in the search engine or a very detailed name. Your title may want to include both such as "iPhone Smartphone" or "Xbox 360 Guitar Hero Video Game". Add a few detailed words followed by some generic names so that your product will be found.

Many customers go on eBay looking for a good deal, so price can become the ultimate factor. Before you post your own items, do a search for similar items of similar quality and decide what the best price should be. As an eBay seller, you will be competing with other sellers so keep this in mind when deciding your price.

So what do your sell? Some people start with items sitting around at home. Items that are in good condition can easily be sold on eBay. Everything from clothes, shoes, golf clubs, and bikes, DVD's, rings and jewellery can be sold. Going to yard sales and finding dressers, sinks, old iron bathtubs, and other house hold items are also good items. Some people will also visit auctions and whole sale stores and purchase items that are thought to be rare or a good deal. Others might buy and finish naked furniture. The possibilities are endless.
Patience is most important. Stop thinking your items will be sold in days or in weeks. Sometimes it takes months to have the right buyer matched with the right customer. Having a variety of items for sale will ensure you do not get stuck trying to sell a bunch of items in the same category.
